YOUR SOUTHGATE GUIDE TO ST LEONARDS & QUAYSIDE

St Leonards is arguably the most sought-after and expensive residential area of Exeter, ideally located between the historic Quayside on the east side of the River Exe, Magdalen Road, and just a short walk from Exeter's beautiful city centre. The leafy suburb is particularly popular with families. This is largely down to the proximity of some of the most-regarded local schools, which include St Leonards Church of England Primary School, Exeter School, and Maynards, all of which are located within the parish.
It also provides excellent access to the Riverside area of the city and the Quayside, offering plenty of green space for those who enjoy walking, cycling, or exercising their dogs.
The architecture is varied, ranging from the modern developments of Topsham Road and the Gras Lawn development, to the grand Georgian townhouses and detached villas in prestigious addresses, such as Matford Avenue and Wonford Road. There are also plenty of smaller terraced properties, which can be found in locations around Roberts Road or the particularly attractive streets descending to the historic Quayside.
The local shopping street of Magdalen Road is the home to many of Exeter's independent and boutique-style shops and cafes. Whether you are looking for Tapas or a quick bite to eat at lunchtime, you won't be disappointed with the offerings here. Dotted amongst the cafes and delis, the independent gift and homeware shops are well worth a lunchtime walk.
As Exeter's most desirable suburb, there's just one drawback...house prices in this region tend to be some of the highest in Devon. But with so much on the doorstep, it's no surprise that houses here tend to sell very quickly indeed.
