Polsloe covers an area either side of Pinhoe Road between Mount Pleasant / Polsloe Road and Beacon Lane / Hamlin Lane and between Prince Charles Rd and Hanover Rd / Bonnington Grove. It is well served with buses, has a train station at Polsloe Bridge and is within reasonable walking distance of the city centre. Historically the area has been very popular with students but this is gradually changing as more families move in. There are a number of convenience stores dotted around the area, a couple of churches and a variety of small independent shops and services, pubs and takeaways.
The streets around Priory Road / Monks Road and St Johns Road / Park Road consist mainly of terraced properties and have a large number of HMO’s for students or young professionals alongside some family homes. The area is mostly permit parking and is busier during term time than in the University holidays. It is also covered by an Article 4 Restriction, which loosely put, prevents any more houses being converted to multiple occupancy properties.
Chaucer Grove is a modern development off Beacon Lane comprising 1 and 2 bed flats and a few 3 bed houses, it also has a children’s play area. The area around Greyfriars Road is also a modern build and offers flats and 2 or 3 bed houses. Properties around East Avenue / Regents Park and those around Wykes Road tend to be older properties, semi’s and detached, with more character. Polsloe Road itself has a mix of older terraces and character properties from around 1910 and some modern flats.
