Topsham is a small picturesque town on the outskirts of Exeter on the east bank of the Exe estuary. In the past, it was a busy port and much of its history is still evident in the architecture and layout giving it a distinctive identity which is much valued by locals and visitors alike.
Topsham has much to offer including riverside walks, bird watching, sailing, moorings, independent shops, cafés, restaurants and inns, parks, antiques and a museum. There is a strong sense of community and many events take place throughout the year. Its rich history, charming character, riverside location and proximity to Exeter makes Topsham a popular place to live and this is reflected in the high demand for property which attracts a premium price.
Topsham has a variety of different architectural styles including Dutch gable houses reflecting its maritime past, Georgian and Edwardian houses, Victorian terraces, Grade II listed buildings, cottages, more modern developments and a few unique modern properties. There are many smaller streets around the High Street which are well worth exploring in order to appreciate the varied nature of the properties. There are also a few bespoke retirement developments dotted around. On the outskirts of Topsham towards Countess Wear, there are a few recent developments at Greenacres and The Rydons (see Countess Wear area guide) and there is an established park home development at Newport Park.
