Beacon Heath

The area of Beacon Heath is primarily a residential area found on the East side of the city between Stoke Hill, Summer Lane and Pinhoe Road. Aside from housing, there are a number of convenience stores and parks dotted around the area, a Morrison’s supermarket and a swimming pool. Mincinglake Valley Park is a popular area for walking and offers far reaching views from the top. Beacon Heath is a short bus ride into town and Pinhoe Road allows easy access to the M5, Honiton Road, Sowton Business Park and the Met Office.

Most of the housing on the main estate is post war (1960’s and ‘70’s) consisting of a mixture of council and ex-local authority properties including purpose built flats and terraces of small houses. There is a ‘Knights of the Round Table’ theme to the majority of the street names. There are a couple of more modern developments such as Uplands Drive (1980’s) and Round Table Meet (1990’s) and a small gated development of purpose built flats off Beacon Lane. Houses on Beacon Lane, St Katherines Road, Mile Lane and Bettys Mead are older (1930’s) and tend to be slightly larger, semi-detached or detached properties.
